ABOUT
The opening partner bat was hand made by the author for use with locals and Ghurkha security. A discrete team provided a security detachment for MAJGEN Jim Molan who was essentially running the war for a period. This provided us a front seat experience of the war, particularly the Spec Ops war inside Baghdad. On this deployment we also liberated a brick from Saddam Hussein’s palace, secured during some midnight renovations by the author and Mat Locke MG, whose son, Keegan Locke, holds a second part of the brick. The tour was completed over the deadliest period of the insurgency in Baghdad city, where games of cricket were regularly played against a backdrop of suicide bombers and rocket attacks.<
SIGNATURES
Mat Locke MG (KIA Oct 2007), Dave O’Neill (killed during training April 2007), and MAJGEN Jim Molan
