The opening bat was secured by “John” on a special cross border mission into Pakistan. Used by G-Troop whilst operating around Asadabad in the first international cricket match played in the Global War On Terror (GWOT) ‘outside the wire’, between Australian, USSF and Afghan soldiers. The games were often interrupted by rocket and small arms attacks. On this deployment we also liberated a brick from Bin Laden’s hideout in the vicinity of Ali Khel near Tora Bora. The tour is remembered for snakes, tigers, goats, and monkeys. Our team received a Bronze Star for work carried out in support of US forces.
